If you would like to limit the number of attendees please follow these steps.

Go to Events.
Find the event you would like to limit attendees.
Go to the Guest List tab. Under the heading Guest List you will see Limit Attendee Count to ___. Once that number is set and it reaches that limit, it will close registration.
